Adoption of PV*SOL to a country’s typical setting
PV*SOL can quickly produce results as soon as it is opened for the first time. For improved accuracy, detailed adjustments are made to the parameters to suit each individual project. For initial analysis, many parameters can be left in their default setting or repeated from the previous project. For the more complex systems, adjusting the values correctly requires practice and experience. Our training can help familiarise you with how best to make these adjustments.
PV*SOL has default settings and databases that are best changed to match typical values expected for each country and location. These changes are additional to selecting the correct climate. We recommend that all such values are revealed to support simulation reports where requested.
Pollution Mix
The default pollution mix database used in PV*SOL is based on GEMIS (Global Emission Model for Integrated Systems), which is a lifecycle analysis program and database for energy, material, and transport systems. It is available freely at no cost (public domain). GEMIS includes total lifecycle analysis in its calculation of impacts: i.e. fuel delivery, materials used for construction, waste treatment, and transports/auxiliaries.
The GEMIS database covers:
- efficiency, power, capacity factor, lifetime
- direct air pollutants (SO2, NOx, halogens, particulates, CO, NMVOC)
- greenhouse-gas emissions (CO2, CH4, N2O, SF6, all other Kioto gases)
- solid wastes (ashes, overburden, FGD residuals, process wastes)
- liquid pollutants (AOX, BOD5, COD, N, P, inorganic salts)
- land use
The screenshot images below shows the default figures for German Electrical production. It is possible to create a new pollution database in PV*SOL from the Main menu > Databases > Pollution Mix > Save. The database should be first renamed before saving. There are two separate columns of figures: one for grid electricity used and the other for mitigated when fed-in.
